It is an unfortunate fact that too many guidance counselors can only spend an average of 38 minutes per year with each high school student discussing potential college and career choices (Am. School Counselor Assoc.). Tight budgets and staffing limits make it impossible to provide any more personal support.
Many students are unable to make informed decisions regarding their future because they have no idea how to effectively pursue their interests and aspirations.
Too many students enter college with an attitude directed towards the socializing aspects of campus life rather than focusing on their much more important academic responsibilities.

Feeling satisfied in a career takes more than simply knowing what interests you. Besides considering what you like to do, you must also recognize how you like to do it. In other words, you need to identify your career "style."
For example, suppose you are talented in the sciences, and you have always excelled in biology. How can you identify which type of working environment will best suit your career style? Would you prefer a medical career working closely with other people in a busy clinical setting? Or is your style more compatible with the quieter, more solitary environment of the research laboratory?
You will gain better understanding of your own unique interests, strengths, needs, and potential stress behaviors when needs are not met. You will also achieve a greater understanding of others and how to adjust your own behaviors in order to create more positive relationships through needs satisfaction.
